In 1986 when Swami Amaldas who took over the Saccidananda Ashram of Narsinghpur Madhya Pradesh. At the request of Shantivanam Ashram. Trichy, he desired to establish an Ashram of Camaldolese for women. With this in view he contacted Sr. Lea who was then a student at Dharmaram College, Bangalore.
With the support of Rt. Rev. Bishop Theophane of Jabalpur and Swami Amaldas. Sister Lea requested the monastery of St. Antonio, Camaldolese of Rome, to form a Congregation Benedictines of Camaldoli. The request was granted by Mother Abbess, Ildegrde.
The Bishop of Mysore Rt. Rev. Dr. Michelappa invited the Congregation to establish their Ashram in his Diocese in 1993. A six acre site was lpurchased and the foundation for Jnanodaya Ashram (Dawn of wisdom) was laid in December 1993.
The Ashram Building completed and blessed by Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Roy Bishop of Mysore and inaugurated by Rev. Mother Abbess Sister Michela Porcellato of St. Antonio Abate, Rome on 29th January 2001.
Two of the main people instrumental in starting the Ashram are no more. Swami Amaldas, the mentor died on the 8th June 1990. The co-founder Mother Abbess Ildegarde left for her heavenly abode on the 3rd March 1995.
Jnanodaya Ashram is a dependent house of St. Antonio’s Rome. The monastery focus now to attract young girls for formation. The Ashram rus a Retreat Centre and welcomes anyone seeking God.

In In Marthi Khyathanahalli on the Bogadi – Gaddige road about 9 km from Mysore City.
By Car :
From Mysore, take the road going to Bogadi – Gaddige to Marthi Khyathanahalli.
By Bus :
From Mysore city bus stand or suburban bus stand, take bus nos. 251, 252, 254, 257 or 258 to Marthi Khyathanahalli, Buses going to Gaddige and Sargur also pass through Marthikyathnahalli.
By Rail :
From Mysore railway station, go to the suburban bus-stand and follow directions “By Bus”.
By Air :
Arrive at Bangalore, take a bus, train or tax to Mysore and follow directions “By Car”, By Bus” or “By Rail”.
