Nava Jyohi Benedictine Monastery at Nallathanny is the fulfillment of the dream of Sr. Lily Therese Chennattu who along with two other sisters left the Abbey of Shanti Nilayam, Bangalore to found a Benedictine Monastery in the Syro – Malabar Church, in Kerala. Their initial years where in the Diocese of Kothamangalam, where their temporary house was blessed in 1999. They received an indult of Exclaustration from the Holy See in 2001. Later they obtained the due permission from the Congregations in Rome from the of the institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life (in 2001) and that of the Oriental Churches (in 2003). They are an officially and Canonically erected Sui iuris Benedictine Monastery of eparchial rite in the Benedictine Order. The foundations stone for the new Monastery was laid by the Major Archbishop of the Syro – Malabar Church. His Beatitude Mar Varkey Cardinal Vithayathil in 2003 and his Eminence himself blessed the Monastery in 2007.
